'The Way of the Ghost' Giclée Print
It's hard to encapsulate such a big game into a single image. In the end I had to choose a few visual elements that convey just a sliver of this wonderful story.
The caption on the left says:
心裂けしを血流れず
き魂湧き出でて
尽未来み出でぬ
which roughly translates to:
My heart was ripped open
but instead of blood
my noble soul gushed forth
and seeped away forever
Here's one cool thing about this little poem. It loosely conforms to waka poetic constraints. While a haiku has a 5-7-5 syllabic pattern, it's actually a more modern form of poetry. Back in the classical period, waka was a more prevalent poetic form, with a 5-7-5-7-7 metre. For our poem, we bent the rules a little and went with a 7-5 7-5 7-5 metre.
The larger cartouche reads 冥人之孤道, which can translate to 'The Lonely Path of the Ghost'.
